Ever wanted to take better care of your own bike at home? The Home Mechanic Course shows you how, with hands‑on tips and easy routines that make maintenance less intimidating. You’ll work directly on your own bike as you learn, covering all the key tasks that go into a full major service — from cleaning and tuning to fixing common issues. By the end, you’ll have the confidence and skills to keep your bike rolling smoothly, and the satisfaction of knowing you did it yourself.
What you’ll learn
This full-day, hands-on workshop is designed to give riders the confidence to service and troubleshoot their own bikes. Working directly on your own bike, you’ll gain practical skills across all the major systems:
Workshop Foundations: Learn how to set up a home workspace, choose the right tools, and apply torque and leverage correctly. We’ll also cover how to deal with seized or damaged bolts, plus cleaning and lubrication routines.
Wheels & Hubs: Understand hub types, bearings, and freehub servicing. Practice truing wheels, replacing spokes, and assessing rim damage.
Drivetrain & Bottom Brackets: Get hands-on with cassettes, chains, crank removal, chainrings, and chain line. Learn how to identify wear and replace bottom brackets across different standards.
Derailleurs & Shifters: Master hanger alignment, derailleur adjustment, cable routing, and diagnosing common shifting problems.
Brakes: From pad replacement to rotor inspection, you’ll learn how to bleed brakes, align callipers, and solve issues like brake fade or noise.
Cockpit & Frame Care: Cover bar, stem, and seat post setup (including dropper posts), headset servicing, and frame inspection for damage or repair.
Suspension Systems: Explore fork and shock theory, setup, and linkage maintenance.
Tyres & Tubeless: Learn about tubeless systems, tyre fitting, and tube replacement.
Pedals & Extras: Finish with pedal servicing and other small but essential details that keep your bike running smoothly.
